Members of the Tioga Volunteer Fire Department have been providing fire suppression and first-responder services for the citizens of Tioga and surrounding communities since 1936. The department’s fifteen (15) member staff operates a fleet of five (5) vehicles, the newest being a 2010 Freightliner Engine and responds twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to various types of emergencies. On average, our department handles over 140 calls for service each year.
In addition to this invaluable service, they are also very active in community events, including hosting two of the City’s more popular gatherings:
*Red, White and Blues July 4th Fireworks and Festival: In 2012, Tioga was host to over 2,000 spectators from around north Texas who enjoyed the best live music, vendors and fireworks display anyone can imagine! Plans have been in the works for months on this year’s show so you don’t want to miss this one!
* Breakfast With Santa: Jolly ol’ Saint Nick arrives to enjoy a prepared breakfast for all in attendance, with activities and games for all the kids (young or old) as well. After a brief early-afternoon break, Santa jumps on board a fire truck and leads a parade throughout the streets of Tioga which ends near the downtown area. The evening is filled with Christmas caroling, hot cocoa and the lighting of our “City Tree”.
On the east side of their present building, a new training room is presently under construction. Plans are to complete this multi-purpose room by late April and then host a City-wide “Fish Fry” to celebrate the grand opening of this facility. Please check back here for more information!
