Mosquitoes can spread a number of dangerous diseases including West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, Chikungunya, Yellow Fever and Dengue Fever.

Protect yourself from mosquito bites by following the four D’s:

Protect yourself from mosquitoes 24 hours a DAY.

DRESS in long sleeves or pants, thick clothing, and full coverage shoes.

DEFEND yourself by wearing insect repellants.

DRAIN standing water in and around your house.

Homeowner anti-mosquito checklist:

*Unclog gutters

*Drain flowerpot dishes

*Dump plastic wading pools

*Dispose of unused tires or drill holes in them

*Check screens on windows and doors for tears

*Replace water in bird baths and animal dishes daily

*Apply Bti/methoprence (pesticide) to yard drains. We have Bti briquettes available at no charge at City Hall while supplies last. Courtesy of the Grayson County Health Department.

The City of Tioga will begin a spraying program for mosquitoes in May. Mosquito spraying will be conducted monthly through September. Spraying is generally conducted between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The spray is safe and will not harm people, animals or plants.
