Full-time Police Officer

The City of Tioga, Texas is accepting applications for a full-time TCOLE certified Peace Officer. This position will be responsible for enforcing federal, state, and local laws related to the protection of life and property; directing and controlling traffic; promoting crime prevention and community relations; investigating disturbances; and arresting violators.

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Driver License
• Active TCOLE Peace Officer license
• Pass a thorough background investigation
• Pass a medical exam, psychological exam, and drug screening
• Work nights, weekends and holidays

Criminal record must be limited to:
1. Never been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
2. Has never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years.
3. Has never been convicted or placed on community supervision in any court of an offense involving family violence as defined under Chapter 71, Texas Family Code.

Reserve Police Officer 

There is no monetary compensation or City benefits offered for these positions.

The Tioga Police Department is currently looking to fill several  reserve peace officer positions to supplement their force.  Reserve officers will be expected to perform the full range of police duties and be able to work with minimal supervision.  Work hours may include nights, weekends and holidays and could total up to twelve (12) hours per week.  Uniforms and individual duty gear are not furnished by the City.

Applicants must be currently certified through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) as a peace officer and be in good standing. While prior experience in policing is desired (to include the successful completion of a structured Field Training Program), any combination of experience/education that would provide the necessary knowledge can be considered for qualification.

The prospective applicant(s) must be a high school graduate (or have obained their GED) and possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license with no more than three (3) moving violations or accidents within the past thirty-six (36) months and no DWI, DUID or reckless driving convictions within the past sixty (60) months.  Any Felony or domestic violence conviction is an automatic disqualifier.

Interested applicants should come by Tioga City Hall (600 Main Street) in order to pick up a Personal History Statement Packet (or print off one electronically using the link below) and are encouraged to submit a resume and a letter of interest.  Applications must be filled out completely.  Any omission or incomplete application will not be considered.  Applicants will be subjected to a complete background investigation and may be required to take a polygraph examination and participate in an Oral Review Board prior to selection.  If any additional examination (I.E. physical, drug screen and psychological) is deemed necessary, it will be at the applicant’s expense.

City Council appointed Boards and Commissions.

There is no monetary compensation or City benefits offered for these positions.

There are several boards associated with the City of Tioga who’s members are appointed by the City Council. These include the Planning and Zoning Commission, Tioga Economic Development Corporation, and the Tioga Industrial Development Corporation.

There is currently an opening on the Planning and Zoning Commission. If you are interested in serving on this board please submit an application to the Tioga City Hall.
